Discussion with MEP Damian Boeselager

On 2 December 2021, 19:00-20:30, the EU Youth Hub held a discussion with Damian Boeselager, member of the European Parliament and of the Volt Europa party.

The event started with Mr. Boeselager sharing his personal journey, from his studies, to his internships and now to the European Parliament. More specifically, he referred to the committees he has served on, as well as his vision for each of the issues the committees have dealt with. He then eagerly answered the questions he received from the members of the EU Youth Hub. Within the context of his answers, he highlighted interesting aspects of very topical and critical issues. He explained in detail the EU legislative process and referred to the possible usefulness of drafting a new treaty and the general reluctance to do so. On the occasion of the latest news about the pandemic of the new Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus, he discussed with the participants the possible compulsory vaccination and whether or not this is contrary to EU principles.

In addition, participants were given the opportunity to learn about the considerable potential of artificial intelligence and its possible applications in areas such as green transition, cyber security, terrorism and big data. Mr Boeselager also referred to the discussion on whether AI can pose a threat to our privacy and how we can effectively address this challenge.

Finally, Mr Boeselager shared his views on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, for which the EU Youth Hub had held a special event in November 2021, and whether it promotes and better understands the principle of solidarity. The event concluded with Mr Boeselager urging all participants to be active in politics and not to hesitate to claim a better future for the Europe they envision.
